West End LIVE 2009
West End LIVE, the world’s largest free theatre festival in the heart of London was a huge success - more than 250,000 people visited Leicester Square over the weekend of June 20th – 21st 2009 – and entry to the event and all the activites were available for free.
Highlights included performances by talk-show host Jerry Springer in his debut West End role as razzmatazz lawyer Billy Flynn in the hit show Chicago and the BBC’s I’d Do Anything winner Jodie Prenger, performed as Nancy in Lionel Barts classic Oliver!
Crowds also saw great performances from Jersey Boys, Wicked, We Will Rock You, Dirty Dancing, Avenue Q, Thriller, Stomp, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, and Sister Act. Visit our facebook group to see pictures and videos from the weekend.
As well as watching a series of stellar stage performances on the main stage, visitors took part in a host of activities at the event, which was organised by Westminster City Council and various London museums, galleries and other arts institutions. These included bubble shows by the Science Museum, Film animation in the BFI marquee, balloon show by ‘The Land of Noo’, the popular Storm troopers from Forbidden Planet and many many more family friendly activities in the Square.
We would like to thank all involved; sponsor's, exhibitor's, performer's and the audience alike in helping us to make another successful West End LIVE.
Children and adults a like enjoyed having their photo’s taken with much-loved screen favourites such as Postman Pat, Bob the Builder, Fifi, Fireman Sam, Angelina Ballerina, Pingu and Barney.
